Lambing & Kidding
11th February – 23rd April. A fact-packed talk delivered by a member of the team, taking you through the process of lambing all the way from how a farmer plans their lambing season, through to the after-care of the newborns.
29th April – 22nd December. A member of the team will take you through the process of hand-milking with the assistance of either a Gloucester cow or one of our Saanen or Toggenburg goats. Milking demonstrations take place at the Farm Park from April all the way through to December.
13th May – 18th June. When the weather gets warmer, it’s a bit too hot for our sheep to be wearing their winter coats! Some of the primitive sheep naturally shed their wool before the summer comes, but other breeds need a little bit of help. A member of the team will shear the sheep of their fleeces, explaining the process and how the wool and lanolin (a waxy substance, which protects the wool and skin) can be used afterwards.
24th June – 24th November. A pageant of history on four legs, this demo is excellent fun! Some of our rams climb up a pyramid shaped stage and help us to demonstrate how sheep breeding has changed over the last 4,000 years. Some lucky children will get the chance to join in with our staff, and dress up in period costume.
